What do you mean I have a nosebleed?

John Kordic was one of the greatest hockey players who ever lived. His heroic intake of steroids, alcohol and cocaine set records that even Bob Probert couldn't catch. And all in only 6 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques and Washington Capitals, during which he still found the time to amass 35 points and 997 penalty minutes. He truly was an NFL level Felon amongst Hockey Goons. The night he died they say it took 9 officers to subdue him (not a joke).

Bizarre Feud

A Dec. 22, 1988 Boston Globe story quoted Pat Burns as saying that Kordic was "a problem." Burns allegedly claimed Kordic had threatened to slap former Canadiens coach Jean Perron if he did not get more ice time. Kordic denied this to a bathroom of reporters while hunched over a powdered mirror. Burns, good Irishman that he was, got belligerently drunk and continued to claim that Kordic had used the same intimidation tactics on him when he was coach. Pat Burns claimed to have once thrown an ashtray at Kordic out of fear that Kordic was coming into his office to attack him. And John Kordic was heard to say:

  • "Do people who know me think I'd sit there and let someone throw an ashtray at my head? I'm not a cigarette butt, I'm a human being."

-- John Kordic - January 1989
